"We decided to leave the Quarantine to get a few stitches!"
Thursday March 26th. One of the most horrifying days of my life. I still hear the his high pitched moaning as he was standing up helpless by his bike with bloody lips and jaw while I was walking about 10 meters behind him. It was getting dark and while I was working during the day, he had apparently biked his heart out during the day with dad and Lucia. I went outside to get him back while he was still wanting to bike some more with our neighbor's 10 year old son Alex after Paxton left for the day. Alex was climbing a tree and we were watching him when Arsam suddenly got on his bike swiftly and I followed right behind him but couldn't catch his speed. When I got to our next door's neighbor's house I saw him standing still with that frightening moan. I knew something was wrong. I got closer, but I saw the blood. I screamed what happened Arsam? he was too timid and shocked to give a clear response. But he mumbled something along the lines of I fell of my bike mommy. I saw the blood but started to feel dizzy. I couldn't get closer to see it up close. Alex went to him to bring his bike. I ran to the house and called for Mehdi. He was luckily in the U.S due to the Corona virus. He ran out and got Arsam... somehow in the dusk, he had slipped on the concrete part of the street and his loose upper front baby tooth cut into his lip, splitting it open. the baby tooth fell in the street. The vermilion border was completely open. My heart was racing. we took him to the Urgent care who told us they wouldn't be able to fix it as it is an Emergency suture situation. Mehdi thought that we could therefore go home but he was informed that we needed to actually go to the E.R. We decided to go to the Children's hospital North. After the initial moan, he did not cry a single bit, and was calm and composed. If I needed stitches I imagined I would be crying my vocal cords out. Arah was very calm during the process assuring us that he will be Ok. It took a good 1 hour before the doc got to examine him after the accident. He notified us that the glue stitch wouldn't work and we needed the real kind followed by 4 more dissolvable ones. We were told to return the next week to remove the suture. Arah kept sending him messages by Lucia's phone saying she missed him. They exchanged a few sentimental messages back and forth. She was clearly worried for her brother. He watched the Cars movie and asked for some Gatorate. he got sedated and didn't even fret during the procedure. He had a special solution to gargle 2x a day and we sent his tooth picture to the dentist for review. He didn't see him as they normally would due to the Covid 19 closures but He informed us that his permanent tooth was luckily intact and his gum-line could be restored later cosmetically if need be. He swore he would never get on a bike again. He was back on his bike 3 days later. we went to get his suture out today and it has been healing pretty well so far. He got lots of chocolate pudding, juice, ice cream, brownies and soft food AND a new Robotic lego set because the hospital didn't have their treasure box set up yet! Goodness..
We never found the fallen tooth.. Big lesson of safety for 6 year old Arsam.
Having boys is not for the faint of heart! Arsam getting his sutures.
