Mothers' day 2012

It is almost heart-wrenching to try to write about the mother's day this year.  I lost an old friend just a week before my 3rd mother's day and have not been able to digest the news ever since, but finally am ready to acknowledge it.  She left us within a quick 30 minute of coma before her family could reach her due to a stomach flu, dehydration and elevated blood glucose level due to her diabetes.   Almost too simple but tragic to believe! and she's survived by her 4 teenage and younger children and husband.  I can still remember her warm voice, beautiful hazel eyes and soft, firm skin.  She was a true beauty inside and out...  And always warm and happy to meet you and start a sincere conversation mostly about health, and kids and how to make life easier after having them (like getting a Handy- sign to hang on the car rear mirror to park in the Handy parking space back in the days when there were no signs for families with young kids or for most lots these days!) She put motherhood's mind into some creative work to say the least and up to this day brings a smile to my face every time I remember her advice!

So this year, I decided to run again; in honor of Asieh whom I didn't get to say good bye to for the last time and vowed to adopt a healthier life-style as a mom  to witness Arah's most important mile-stones and future stages of life on her path to success as she follows her dreams... and above all, be there for her whenever she needs my support.   I also invited my mom to join me in this 9K journey this year.  What an honor to be able to run next to my mom and celebrate this day with her and wish for her health improvement.

My dearest Arah,
I have always believed that what makes people succeed
is the fact that they have confidence in themselves
and a very strong sense of purpose
They never have excuses for not doing something
and always and always try their hardest for perfection
They never contemplate the idea of failing
and they work extremely hard toward their goals
They know 'who' they are
and they understand their 'weaknesses'
as well as their 'strong points'
They can accept and benefit from criticism
and they know when to defend what they are doing
and they are creative people who are always willing to try new things
and are not afraid of being a little different.
With all my love,
Your mom
