cooking with Arah

I had a dilemma since Arah started to eat solid foods.  She never liked or attempted to even try salmon or any fish for that matter. Being an avid fish eater myself, and as a family, I was determined to make it happen.  I was waiting for the right moment to do it and one day I saw her really curious about my cooking and I decided to give it a shot.

I decided to get Arah to try the food by actually participating in the process herself as I read in an article.  To my surprise, Arah was super excited to follow my directions and measure salt, pepper,  other herbs and the liquids and semi-liquids.

She actually happily called flaked salmon, which I have to say I grilled, and flaked in her absence in advance, 'Turkey'.  I just had to keep my mouth shot to allow her the chance to give it a try.  she actually liked it!  I was in heaven!  I then told we need to make patties with them to bake them but she was happy to just nibble at the half-way done product.  I really didn't need to make salmon cake  beyond that but just to fulfill my promise I proceeded to finishing that.  And boy, did she like it.  Pictures speak for themselves.

She actually loved the crunchy exterior and flaky interior to my expectation.  I myself am a big fan of crunchy grilled food I must admit!
I realized that sometimes it is not the taste of some foods that kids don't like, it's the texture or appearance and if we make the effort to modify that they may actually like it.  She still doesn't care for surgery products even at three as I didn't find it necessary to introduce it her before 1.  but she has a great deal of interest in colorful fruits and veggies like mango, avocado, blueberry, orange and pear, and apples and definitely broccoli and baby carrots.  We love you our colorful eater!
